Venice, Italy sailing toward Dubovnik, Croatia
Big plans for some of us to go ashore briefly this morning prior to our sailing at 1:00pm, but nothing happened. The crowds are intense right now at the tail end of the tourist season, its impossible to walk five steps in a straight line without bumping into someone and the phototakers are looking so outraged at anyone who walks in front of their shot - as they take hours (it seems) to get the angle just right. Worse if taking pictures of each other, they get quite vocal then if you intrude on their field of vision. Jan and I have moved past that, now taking our photos on the basis that the perfect shot is unlikely if not impossible, so shoot lots and get one good one out of ten. Works for us.
The Ruby Princess pulled away from the dock on schedule and made its way on a 'sailpast' of San Marco square of the port side of the ship. Fabulous weather, lovely breeze over the deck to cool us, Venice and San Marco like a carpet of green and marble and orange tile roofs, as good as it gets.
At last out into open water, with the rest of the day a sea-day for us, cruising along to Dubrovnik over the horizon. Nothing to do now but have a cocktail and relax.
Dinner in the Dining Room tonight, very nice, and a 'Sail-Away' show later in the Princess Theatre, always a great way to end the evening.
