Cartagena, Spain
Left Granada in no great hurry, its a short hop that we are taking today, three to four hours should see us at our destination of Cartagena.
We didn't check weather forecasts, hell - this is Spain after all. Should have though, we hit snow on the mountain passes at around 1308 meters. Luckily the salt/sand trucks, with their plows, had been out in force and the roads were good. I kept my eye on the road temperature sensor, and it didn't go below zero degrees celcius so I didn't worry about ice. But I watched it. On looking up the Sierra Nevada Range later in Google, we noted that it is the highest point in continental Spain, and site of a major skiing resort simply called 'Sun and Ski'.
The snow wasn't that bad, and was pretty on the countryside, but we were in a cloud bank for most of the journey so Jan's usual crop of excellent 'road pictures' is drastically reduced today.
At Cartagena, found a Best Western hotel and decided to stay. Terrible decision, the place was an over-rated dump, and the internet which was free was worth exactly what we paid for it. Which was nothing. First time that has happened, a good chain but a crappy hotel, on this trip or our North American road trip. Watched the Olympics, then bed. Tomorrow, Alicante.
