Day 63:
Up early for Jan and I lately, 7:30am, checked out, breakfasted, and off to nearby Chappel Hill, NC. It is the home of the dreaded rivals of Duke athletics, the University of North Carolina. And also of the hairdressers that Alison arranged for Jan to see this morning. And of a Walmart where I went to have the oil changed in the Honda. And of a Best Buy, where we went to buy Jan a new notebook computer. Yay!! Yippee!! That was the sound of Jan being happy with her new computer.
Great deal on the computer, and we got a travel case as well as a cordless mouse and a flash drive. Jan's working on it now as I type these notes.
The oil change was strange in that they drained the oil, put in the requested brand and weight of new oil, then went to change the filter. And discovered that they didn't have the correct one, so they screwed the old one back on and parked the car. When I came back to get the car they told me the sad story and didn't charge me for the work or the oil. Damned nice of them I'd say, though not very efficient on their part.
Then Jan and I turned our noses west, and followed them. We sit tonight in Asheville, NC, a lovely place. We went to a little restaurant nearby for dinner and were totally charmed by the young lady that served us. She was so nice, so polite, and spoke SO funny. The drawl is almost unintelligible. What will it be like in Tennessee? Course, she was probably laughing up her sleeve at us and the funny way we talked.
We will look around Asheville tomorrow, it has an interesting history, then off to Tennessee. Maybe Knoxville first, or maybe straight to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry, we're not sure.
