Day 60:

Got away early from Washington DC, south, in very light Sunday Morning traffic. The weather continues to be bright, sunny, and warm. Here are a few sight from the highway. The big, low building, the one that looks like a prison? That's the Pentagon.

Easy run down the highway, I95 and then I85, and long lunch stop. Just after Jan and I sat down, a couple of 'Dinwiddie County' sheriffs showed up for lunch too. A strange pair, had they not had sheriff uniforms on and Smokey The Bear ranger hats on, and had they had on the black leathers, they would have been taken for Skinheads carrying guns and up to no good. Large burly fellows, shaved bald, hand guns on the hip. Definitely inspiring a hope that the hiring process for State Employees includes a background check and a Psyche evaluation. Finally a stop at the tourist information office at the North Carolina border. Checked into our hotel early, then had an unplanned nap. Woke up at 8:30pm, afraid that we may be awake for a long while. Not so, asleep again by about 10:00pm and rested until morning. Jan and I continue to be surprised at how tiring the road can be.

Durham is the apogee of our orbit around North America, and when we turn west from here we will be turning for home. The farm is still a long way away, and for the next 30 days and more our home will continue to be the Honda.

Tomorrow we visit our neice, Alison Sagar, who is in her fourth year at Duke University here in Durham, N.C.
