Day 51:

Leisurely start to the day, packed away the Canadian BCAA tour books, maps, and Tripticks and got out the US ones. Left St. Stephen at the motel check-out time of 11:00am, bound for Calais, Maine. Got the third degree from the border guard, I guess they don't get many people crossing with BC plates. His biggest concern was our bank balance - were we going to be able to support ourselves during our month or so in the states. Eventually he was satisfied and let us through.

All down the road from there, among the hillsides lined with trees decked out in fall colors. Beautiful weather, much warmer today, shirtsleeves, bright sunshine, no thoughts of snow now. However, in St. Stephen this morning, Jan had to scrape the ice off the winshield outside the motel.

We are spending the night in Brunswick Maine, almost 400 kms from the border. Depending on traffic and other factors too numerous to mention here, we may wind up tomorrow night either on the northern outskirts of Boston or way south on Cape Cod.
