Day 39:
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
A sunny, absolutely delightful family and friends Thanksgiving Sunday.
As the refrigerator and stove are quite tiny, we had to be extremely 'creative' in order to buy, store, cook and serve a truly 'Fuhr/Sagar/Erickson' Canadian Thanksgiving Dinner. Amidst much laughter, sharing of previous Thanksgiving stories,
and needless to say, the sharing of a few 'brews', the deed was done to the satisfaction of the multitude. Hugh & Melanie from Canada, Andrew and Vic from London, and Matt and Kate from New Zealand rounded out our international crew of ten for dinner.
Of note, we thought of Uncle Gary, as we proudly cooked a NINE POUND turkey in a gas oven with no temperature control markings! Gary is the 'King of Turkey Cooking', the larger the better (25 - 30 pounds!) so we laughed fondly as we thought he would probably
consider our turkey nothing more than an overgrown Chicken! Another highlight was Auntie Sharron's pumpkin pie recipe which Tara adamantly felt was a must for Thanksgiving dessert. Well....with no pie shells, no measuring cups or spoons and again no temperature markings, Tara and Leanne improvised and proudly produced 'pumpkin pie puffs' (sort of like individual pies) which were definitely a hit. Andrew, Vic, Kate and Matt had never had pumpkin pie and were quite impressed by the flavour. For Melanie and Hugh, it was a little touch of home.
As Monday is not a holiday here in Merry Old England, we broke off fairly early, feeling overstuffed and very content, having shared a wonderful Thankgiving far from home.
