Day 15:
Once again rejuvenated after a day of leisure, we left Niagara Falls under sunny skies heading toward the Canadian Warplanes Museum in Mount Hope (near the Hamilton Airport). What a humblng experience to see the planes that the RCAF pilots flew in the war! Saw the Rolls-Royce Merkin engine that Dad would have worked on in the war. These engines powered the Spitfire, the Hurricane, the Lancaster Bomber and the Mosquito. We saw a B25 Mitchell bomber that Steve's (Leanne's boyfriend) Grandpa Jack was a navigator on in WWII in Europe. We also saw the same type of Triumph motorcycle that Dad rode in Holland durng the war.
Then onward to brave the 403/QEW/401 highways through and past Toronto, stopping at Whitby for lunch and then on to Kingston. (We admire Dave and Kate for navigating and living in the Toronto scrum!)
Kngston will be well remembered by Gary and family, Brian for his stint at Queen's University and Tim for his time at RMC. A fabulous mix of old and new buildings. We learned that a lot of the brick for the buildings came from the limestone that was dug up in the process of constructing the Rideau Canal. We noted many pubs, so, of course, we had to do a pub tour: The Confederation Hotel dockside pub; the Pilot House neighbourhood pub; and last but not least, The Tir Nan Og for a little bit of Irish; great people, great fun, what a great town!
