Day 11: Well rested with an early start and a first light view of Lake Superior. The lake is huge, in fact, one of the main things that has continuously impressed us travelling across Canada is that we really do live in a huge country! We knew it but didn't really own 'the hugeness' until we actually immersed ourselves in the hugeness by crossing boundary after boundary of this country. Day was cloudy and cool for a ten hour (including breaks) run to Sault Ste. Marie. Highway steep, red rocks and evergreens on either side of the highway, and frequent glimpses of Lake Superior.

'Portant note: White River was the home of 'Winnie the Pooh'! Did you know he was a real bear that was captured and taken to the London Zoo inspiring A.A. Milne to write the 'Winnie the Pooh' series?

No such story about the huge goose that seems to be the basis for the name 'Wawa'. It is just BIG, but there are no goose droppings to worry about.

But there are things on the highway to worry about. Take a look at the front of this truck that was all over our backside for WAY TOO LONG before he finally passed us. This highway was as remote as the far side of the moon, and if he had wanted to bite us the remains wouldn't have been found till next spring.

Stopped by Batchawana Bay, the home of many major Canadian Wood Carvers. Hard to resist getting some souvenirs!! The moose (plural) should be the provincial animal of Ontario they are so common. Every mile there is another sign warning of the 'Night Danger' (actually on the sign just below an outline of a moose) that exists from these large and dumb beasts. If we hit one we would just be a highway smear, but they really don't stand a chance against the big trucks that are 75% of the highway traffic that we saw.

Stopped at Sault Ste. Marie for the night, exhausted. Each city we have visited so far absolutely amazes us with its tidbits of Canadiana history and unique character.
