Day 7: Left Medicine Hat under grey rainy skies heading east to Swift Current. Still seeing vast expanses of grain fields, oil pump stations and grain storage with rail cars lined up right in the middle of huge fields. A constant flow of trains by the side of the highway - never seen so many trains!!! Brother Gary, a must see for you!!

A combination of flat land and gently rolling hills marked the terrain heading towards Swift Current. I guess the terrain to constant commuters is boring but to us nouveau highway nomads, it is fascinating! For us, even the sameness is awesome simply because it is so huge and vast. We are feeling like little 'Chilliwackians' as we go forth to explore this huge, huge country.

Moose Jaw was a charming little town. Jan visited the underground tunnels which housed the Chinese immigrants in the early 1900s. (It made me cry when I saw the deplorable conditions that my white ancestors forced the Chinese of Moose Jaw to live in if they wanted to survive. Disgusting conditions!) The high point of Moose Jaw was visiting Marion Keay's sister, Joy Wira. Note Marion's art work in Joy's home. Marion is truly a superb Canadian Artist!

Road to Regina was flatter than flat but clearer skies and no rain. How flat can it be? Well, apparently pretty flat! The locals are fond of saying that if your dog runs away you can watch him go for the next two hours. Saw some sheep as well as cows and horses and wait for this, a coyote crossing the highway. But like a surprise at the end of the rainbow, Regina is absolutely charming with a mix of old and new. The parliament buildings, Casino!!!, RCMP Museum, much more and green, green, green, a delightful surprise after the long, long flat road we travelled on today.

Also of note, the GPS found Marion's sister for us as well as Regina. It is truly a modern technological wizard!! We are so excited to finally be part of this new techology!
